Before You Begin

  • You must be logged in to access the membership application form. Please Sign in or create an account.
  • Review the membership criteria and responsibilities below.
  • Have the following information handy to make your application process as smooth as possible:
    1. Letter of support ready for upload (See an example) – your Healthcare System may have already submitted this letter.
    2. Basic demographic information for your Emergency Department (e.g. visits, geriatric visits, beds, race/ethnicity)
    3. Your hospital’s GEDA status or goal.

Member Criteria & Responsibilities

  • A GEDC ED will have demonstrated commitment from a hospital leader (at the hospital or departmental level) in the form of a letter of support, expressing commitment to the geriatric emergency department and the ED’s efforts to provide excellent care to older adults. We encourage all member sites to take advantage of securing support above and beyond the departmental level, as support from executive leadership will greatly facilitate future GED developments downstream. A letter of support for the geriatric emergency department from hospital or departmental leadership (such as executive level or departmental leadership) meets the criteria.

  • A GEDC Member conducts ongoing, interdisciplinary QI initiatives in GED care, i.e., launches one QI initiative at minimum every two years; and assesses and evaluates the implementation and effectiveness of QI projects that are centred around geriatric emergency care. Emergency Department-based QI projects in a focus area of the Geriatric Emergency Department Guidelines meet this criterion.

  • A GEDC Member (or a team that represents the ED) participates in a GEDC training program or educational engagement and/or demonstrates active involvement in improving the care of older patients. Participation in GEDC Boot Camp, Leveling up Evaluation, Booster Course, Office Hours, or on-going care improvements for older adult emergency department patients meets this criterion.

  • A GEDC Member ED commits to helping other members improve their ED care of older adults. Open and enthusiastic sharing of best practices with other GEDC members through conversation in the GEDC community or website articles meets this criterion.

  • A GEDC Member participates in GEDC activities on an ongoing basis. Participation of a team leader participating in your QI initiatives in at least 1 GEDC event (for example webinars) per year meets this criterion.

  • A GEDC Member ED reports QI data (perhaps aggregate data) with GEDC regarding its QI projects as well as basic ED demographics. Sharing de-identified aggregate data (which will be kept anonymous on request) with GEDC Coordinating Center in order to establish the demographics of GEDC sites and impact of QI projects meets this criterion.
