About This Event
The BRAIN Initiative brings the Alzheimer’s Association and the Geriatric ED Collaborative together with the support of the West Health Institute. Its goal is to identify high-performing hospitals, understand how their models work, and translate those lessons into practical tools for other health systems to adopt. To begin the process, the BRAIN team hosts Best Practice Accelerator Community (BPAC) sessions, in which select sites share and discuss successful delirium interventions.
Hartford Healthcare BPAC
Hartford HealthCare presented their incredible work at the first-ever Best Practice Accelerator Community (BPAC) session as part of the GEDC Healthcare Systems Roundtable. The discussion included other health systems dedicated to better geriatric emergency care, and it led to some valuable insights.

Hartford Hospital Builds on Success to Advance Delirium Care Across the System
A summary of the information presented in the BRAIN Project’s first Best Practice Accelerator Community (BPAC) session where Hartford Hospital shared their delirium-focused quality improvement programs.
The BRAIN Initiative
Creating Dementia and Delirium Friendly Hospitals
This has been made possible as part of the BRAIN (Brain-Healthy Care for Acute and Inpatient Environments) Project — an initiative designed to help health systems directly address the challenge of cognitive impairment.
BRAIN brings together leading hospitals to explore practical interventions for dementia and delirium in ED and inpatient settings. Successful approaches are shared through collaborative sessions and formalized. From there, health systems are equipped to transform care — translating what is already known into what is widely practiced.
