Education for Staff and Clinical Champions

GEDA Level 3

Each process for GEDA Level 3 requires a description of how your site educated staff during the implementation of each process.  This will be documented in the ‘Care Process Summary’ Template provided by GEDA.

GEDA Level 1 & 2

For GEDA levels 1 & 2 there no specific number of required hours of education/CME for staff.  Instead, you will need to attest with descriptions of the how the interprofessional staff are educated at your site.  (see GEDA criteria, bottom of page 14)

Due to some nuance regarding staff education for level 1 & 2 and the application form, is that you will need to attest to several points.

  1. Each process requires a description of how your site educated staff during the implementation of each process.  This will be documented in the ‘Care Process Summary’ Template provided by GEDA.
  2. In the ‘Education’ section the GEDA online application, there are several questions.  These do not to be paragraphs long, rather an accurate and descriptive summary is sufficient.
  3. Who is responsible for the education of physicians and other clinicians around new care processes?
  4. How is the education delivered and how are best practices incorporated into the geriatric ED workflow?
  5. How is education delivered and how are new workflows incorporated into the geriatric ED for nurses?
  6. How is education delivered and how are best practices incorporated into the geriatric ED workflow for physicians and other clinicians?
  7. How is education delivered and how are new workflows incorporated into the geriatric ED for other staff members?

In addition to utilizing the GEDA criteria https://www.acep.org/siteassets/sites/geda/media/documnets/geda-criteria.pdf, I recommend sites start an application early in the process.  This way you can see the format and specific questions to inform how you draft your attestations on education.  Below is a screen shot of a very thorough attestation regarding the multiple questions regards different aspects of educating the staff of your GE
