Dr. Shan Liu

The Geriatric Emergency Department Collaborative (GEDC) proudly congratulates Shan W. Liu, MD, SD, on her appointment as Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School, the first female promoted to Professor in Emergency Medicine at Mass General Brigham, Harvard Medical School.

Harvard Medical School recently recognized Dr. Liu among its newly appointed professors for the 2025–2026 academic year. Dr. Liu is affiliated with Massachusetts General Hospital, where she has built a distinguished career advancing emergency care for older adults.

Dr. Liu is a nationally recognized leader in geriatric emergency medicine whose work has advanced the care of older adults through research, clinical innovation, education, and quality improvement. As GEDC Faculty, she is leading the revision of the Geriatric Emergency Department Guidelines and serves as a board member for ACEP’s Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation Program. She contributes her expertise to efforts that promote high-quality, age-friendly emergency care and support health systems in implementing evidence-based geriatric practices.
