Course Description

Our patients should be at the center of healthcare decision making. Should a patient be unable to make an important health decision for themselves, we can turn to surrogate decision makers or directives prepared by the patient to help guide the next steps. This module explores surrogate decision making and describes several directives you may encounter during the course of care. 

Learning Objectives
  1. Discuss utilization of care directives/surrogates.
  2. Identify various types of advance care directives.
