Genitourinary Emergencies in Older Adults

With Nicole Soria, MD and Danya Khoujah, MBBS

GEMCast returns!

GEMCast host, Christina Shenvi, is back after taking some time to focus on her MBA and COVID. But now, in collaboration with the Geriatric Emergency Department Collaborative, she is ready to continue the conversation about geriatric care in the emergency department.

In our return episode, Dr. Shenvi sits down with Dr. Danya Khoujah and Dr. Nicole Soria, authors of a recent publication entitled Genitourinary Emergencies in Older Adults. Dr. Khoujah is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, and an Attending Physician at MedStar Franklin Square Emergency Department. Dr. Soria is an Emergency Physician at Mercy Health West Hospital at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Here, they discuss the importance of focused physical exams and looking for atypical presentations in GU emergencies in older adults. They also share their clinical expertise in looking at incontinence versus retention and UTIs in older adults.

Special thank you to our guests!
