Five e-learning mini-modules developed by the National Collaboratory to Address Elder Mistreatment

These five short modules cover topics relevant to the management of cases of elder mistreatment in the emergency department. We recommend completing Module 1: Introduction to Elder Mistreatment and the EMED Toolkit before starting any of the Critical Topics in Elder Mistreatment modules.

Falls and Medications

Critical Topics in Elder Mistreatment Module 1 - This module will provide a brief overview of falls and medications among older adults, including how each issue relates to the problem of elder mistreatment.

Caregiver Burden

Critical Topics in Elder Mistreatment Module 2 - This module will provide a brief overview of caregiver burden among those caring for older adults, including how this issue relates to the problem of elder mistreatment.

Decision-Making Capacity

Critical Topics in Elder Mistreatment Module 3 - This module will provide a brief overview of decision-making capacity among older adults within the health care context, including how it relates to the problem of elder mistreatment.

Delirium, Dementia, and Depression

Critical Topics in Elder Mistreatment Module 4 - This module will provide a brief overview of delirium, dementia, and depression among older adults, including how each condition relates to the problem of elder mistreatment.

Lessons from Forensic Nursing

Critical Topics in Elder Mistreatment Module 5 - This module will provide a brief overview of the field of forensic nursing, with a focus on some important ways it can inform elder mistreatment screening and response.
